What is Impact?

Impact is a term that refers to the value of faculty research for purposes of retention, promotion and tenure decisions. Impact can be characterized by "Research visibility than enhances institutional stature among peers (Alpert,1985). Metrics such as impact factors and SJR numbers in standard tools that track citations can document impact.

There are different metrics to figure out the impact a journal or article has including how many times the articles are cited.
