Online Learning and Instructional Technology Services strives to ensure that the courses created with support from our Instructional Designers are accessible to all, including individuals with disabilities. We also offer workshops every semester that help faculty and staff focus on accessibility and universal design for instruction.

Designing online courses with accessibility in mind is one of the best ways to ensure that all students are able to engage in the educational opportunities available at USF St. Petersburg, including those with disabilities. Incorporating accessibility into a course from the beginning will help to eliminate the need for the retroactive approach of accommodating students with disabilities who will take a course in the future.

Check Your Course
Take a few moments to do a quick audit on your online course using the USF St. Petersburg Distance Learning Accessibility Checklist. This tool is meant to help faculty instructors and instructional designers assess the accessibility of their course and determine where improvements can be made. The checklist generates recommendations and tutorials based on your answers.

Canvas Accessibility
Online Learning courses are currently offered through Instructure Canvas, which has received Gold Level certification for accessibility from the National Federation for the Blind. For information about the accessibility of this Learning Management System, visit Canvas’s Accessibility Webpage.
