Guide to Wireless Services & Networks

The wireless network allows easy access for currently enrolled students to library catalogs, databases and the Internet through one of three wireless networks, USF, USF-GOLD, or EDUROAM.

USF standard requires registration through a NetID account. EDUROAM is an secure network across multiple member institutions, including USF and USF St. Petersburg. Students may also check out a wireless laptop from the Access Services circulation desk, which are pre-configured to use the existing wireless network without registration for library use only.

Alumni and visitors who do not have a NetID may also access the wireless network in a more limited capacity, through the Guest Wireless Network.

Accessing Wireless Networks

In order to use the wireless network at the University of South Florida you must:

  1. Have a wireless card in your computer. 802.11b, g and n standards are supported. Please note that there are significant performance differences between the offerings of different vendors. Typically wireless adapters built into laptops have better performance than external cards. Many smartphones such as the iPhone and PDAs will also work.
  2. Have a valid USF email account. If you are a student, you can get an email account from University Network Access. If you are faculty, staff, or a visitor, please contact your respective department for an email account.
  3. Choose the USF network, initially, if your are using Windows 7 ** to access files and setup information for other networks such as USF-GOLD or EDUROAM.  If running Windows 10 or MAC OSX, connect directly to the USF-GOLD network. Please note that USF-GOLD is but is being discontinued.

    Connect to the Network Called “USF”, and register your laptop. Your browser should autodirect to the registration webpage at

    USF-GOLD wireless
    Connect to the Network Called “USF-GOLD” and follow the prompts for your NetID and certificates to set up WPA2 encryption. This process can vary for a variety of devices and platforms, so please visit for more information, or for step-by-step visual tutorial. ** Note that WINDOWS 7 users must download the certificate manually via an alternate network. Use and alternate network to browse to if your device is running Windows 7.

    EDUROAM wireless
    Using an alternate wireless network, download the files needed to connect . After the software is installed, search for the EDUROAM wireless network and connect. Contact us for instructions on the following:

Guest Access to USF Wireless


Wireless access is provided to guests of USF and USF St. Petersburg who do not have a USF NetID. Please follow the instructions below to connect to the USF-Guest wireless network. Registration on the USF-Guest wireless network lasts for 24 hours. Registration is valid for 1 device.

  1. Choose “USF-Guest” wireless network.
  2. Once you are connected to USF-Guest, open your web browser. You will be automatically redirected to the USF Guest Registration page.
  3. On the Guest Registration page, select your method of contact. You can choose “Call me on the phone” or “Send me a text message”.
  4. After a short waiting period, you will receive a temporary access code. Select the option “I have my access code” and agree to the acceptable use policy.
  5. Enter your mobile phone number, the registration code you received and submit.
