Selections from USF St. Petersburg and Tampa Art Foundations Classes

This exhibition, Selections from USF St. Petersburg and Tampa Art Foundations Classes, features artworks from USF students enrolled in Concepts & Practices I and Concepts & Practices II. These foundations art classes introduce students to concepts, materials, process, and skills used in studio art and graphic art practices. The artworks in this exhibition are created by students majoring in graphic arts, studio art, art history, and a variety of non-art majors. The drawings and collages are from professor Kim Millspaugh’s classes and the sculptures are from professors Adam Farcus’s and Gloria Ceren’s classes. Selections from USF St. Petersburg and Tampa Art Foundations Classes will be exhibited from November 8 - 27, 2023.

Dali at the Library: An Alice in Wonderland Collaborative Exhibit

September - October 6, 2023

Salvador Dalí’s illustrations for Alice in Wonderland now on view on the walls of the NPML Gallery have inspired and act as the centerpiece for an expansive adventure down the rabbit hole throughout the first floor of the Nelson Poynter Memorial Library. Through five exhibit cases, a selection of materials from the Alice in Wonderland Collection from the USF Libraries Tampa Special Collections extend and respond to Dalí’s interpretation of Lewis Carroll’s classic tale. Featuring historic and modern illustrations and ephemera (including writings, doilies, soap, games, sketches, and more) the objects survey a variety of interpretations of the story through the decades, from the nineteenth century to the modern era.

Fourth Triennial Exhibition

The Fourth Triennial Exhibition is the fourth juried, traveling exhibit sponsored by the Wood Engravers’ Network (WEN) featuring sixty-five (65) contemporary relief engravings representing a truly international group of artists from Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, England, Finland, Ireland, Latvia, Taiwan, Ukraine, and the United States.

A form of relief printing, the technique of wood engraving spread from northern England in the late 1700s outward to the rest of Europe, Russia, Japan, China, Australia, North America, Mexico, South America and beyond. The traditions of wood engraving include book illustration, ex libris (book plates), ephemera (cards, tickets, certificates, bookmarks, etc.), original works of art, broadside (poster) illustrations, and more. The medium’s unique voices of the “here and now” echo these traditions, rise above them and continue to provide meaningful contributions to the broader art world.

Regularly Scheduled Programming

Regularly Scheduled Programming is curated by and features the work of the USF St. Petersburg Graphic Arts Class of 2023. With posters displayed on the two walls of the gallery, the works “aim to explore the many avenues through which information is dispersed.” The posters also reflect on the history of image-making and graphic design through theater, music, book, and movie marketing. Regularly Scheduled Programming “showcases the use of graphics and typography to frame information in exciting visual ways,” according to the artists. Check out this eye-opening work by our talented St. Pete Graphic Arts students on view through the middle of March, any time the library is open.

Erika Greenberg-Schneider: Perhaps All Magic Is

November 2022-February 2023

The renovated Gallery’s inaugural exhibition, Perhaps All Magic Is, curated by USF St. Petersburg Campus Graphic Arts Professor and Master Printer Erika Greenberg-Schneider, is based on an artists’ book of the same title designed and printed by Professor Greenberg-Schneider. The artists’ book features the poems of Christian Filardo paired with abstract renderings by multidisciplinary artist, Dominique Labauvie. The exhibition showcased pages from the book itself as well as framed prints of Labauvie’s images along the Gallery’s walls. The exhibition version of Perhaps All Magic Is formally ended with a closing reception (or, finassage) on February 2nd, but you still have an opportunity to view the artists’ book by visiting the NPML Special Collections and University Archives.
