Recording Spaces
OLITS offers three recording studio spaces: the distance learning classroom studio, two studio booths, and a Lightboard.
The Distance Learning Studio holds 32 seats and its primary use is to provide video recording services as well as video conferencing services that directly support the teaching and research of USF St. Petersburg campus. Services are provided to the requesting department when used by a faculty member in a regularly scheduled course, during actual class hours, as listed in the Registrar’s Schedule of Classes.
Requests for use of the distance-learning studio are accepted by Distance Learning on a priority basis as follows:
- Scheduled credit classroom activities (E&G supported) and/or administrative services directly related to instruction.
- Scheduled classroom activities (grant or other non-E&G supported).
- Other educational programs (including grants and research programs).
- Administrative services not directly related to instruction.
- Student projects.
- University activities sponsored by University organizations.
- Governmental and non-profit agencies.
- Activities, involving University personnel or students, not directly part of the University program.
Studio Booths are available for faculty use. There is a computer, monitor, and camera to record yourself with. Faculty will have the option to choose what they would prefer to be displayed on the recording: computer, camera, PIP, or computer and camera side-by-side. Appointments should be scheduled through an Instructional Designer to minimize overlapping.
The Lightboard is available to record for online lectures. The Lightboard is similar to a whiteboard but is instead glass. When recording, a person writes towards the viewers with neon markers. The glass, neon markers, and lighting allow for more a modern, creative take on video lectures. These lectures are designed to be very small in time (about 5-10 minutes). Contact your Instructional Designer to find out if the Lightboard is a good option for your online lectures.
Process and Timeline
If meeting with an Instructional Designer, it is best to meet with them to determine a timeline that best meets the needs and availability of all involved. People can typically expect a two-week turnaround time depending on the size of the project.
Request Support
To request support for video production services, complete the Distance Learning Support Request Form. Include the details of the work to be done and your support needs. Submit this form to your Dean's office. Once signed, they will submit the completed form to our office.
